Robert is a Catholic opera singer in a relationship with Jewish violinist Rachel. Together, they have dreams of performing at Carnegie Hall. But the German invasion of Poland during World War II separates them, potentially ending this hope. Robert vows that he will find Rachel, journeying into the heart of Nazi Germany and facing the potential tragedy of her being lost to him forever.
