“Frankie” takes place in the spectacular resort town Sintra, Portugal. The story revolves around Frankie, a French film star played by Isabelle Huppert, and her dealings with family, friends, and illness.
Scenes unfold with gorgeous backdrops of Sintra, Prortugal, long walks in the countryside and trips to the beach.
You feel as if part of a slow Sunday afternoon as family and friends deal with issues that all lead back to Frankie and the reason for this trip.
The role of Frankie was made for Isabelle Huppert. She is an absolute natural in the part as well as Brendan Gleeson (must see “In Bruges”), who plays her husband Jimmy.
Greg Kinnear and Marisa Tomei play friends in the film industry and are both very authentic in their roles. And keep your eye on Carloto Cotta who plays a Portuguese tour guide, Tiago. “Frankie” is a slow, foreign, Sunday afternoon film to be watched in an old NYC theater.
A nice change from the action/special effects films. It’s the yin yoga class of film.
I give this film 7/10
