The Namesake

A Bengali family tries to acclimate to life in the U.S. in this poignant and bittersweet saga of cultures clashing across generations. Their teenage son (Kal Penn) does not embrace their Indian heritage until he visits Calcutta, where he gains an understanding of the importance of his family's past. Indian-born Mira Nair directed from a script by Sooni Taraporevala, who adapted Pulitzer Prize-winner Jhumpa Lahiri's novel. Bollywood superstar Tabu costars as Penn's old-world mother.
